Metal roofs in Hawaii take a beating. The moisture, the salt air, the constant rain - especially on the Hilo side - all of it works against an unprotected roof. Rust gets a foothold, grime builds up, and before long the whole surface starts to break down. That's exactly what this roof was dealing with before we got to work.

We started with a full pressure wash to strip off all the built-up dirt and organic growth. From there, we treated the rust directly - not just painted over it, which a lot of people do. We applied rust prevention on top of that to stop it from coming back. Skipping those steps might save a little time upfront, but the coating won't hold without proper prep underneath.

Once the surface was clean and treated, we painted the roof with high-quality paint built to handle Hawaii's weather. We also painted the gutters and fascia to bring the whole exterior together. The difference between a patchy, rushed job and a finished one shows up in details like that - the lines where the roof meets the fascia, the way the gutters match the overall color. Everything was done as one complete system, not as separate afterthoughts.

The aerial shots really tell the story. The roof has a uniform, even finish all the way across - no blotchy spots, no missed sections, no lap marks. For a multi-hip roof with this much surface area and this many angles, that kind of consistency takes time and attention. That's what we put into it.

If you're a homeowner on the Big Island with a metal roof that's starting to show rust, staining, or fading, roof washing and restoration is almost always the smarter move over full replacement. A properly cleaned, treated, and coated roof holds up well and looks sharp for years - even in Hilo's notoriously wet conditions.
